Kupas Tuntas

I was in charged with Kupas Tuntas twice. Firstly, as young reporter and video journalist at Trans TV around 2005, secondly, as an associate producer when the old Kupas Tuntas being revived at Trans7 (previously known as TV7) around 2006-2007. Kupas Tuntas basically was a news hardtalk presented in studio with current issues, mostly about politics or social phenomenons. But later being developed into outdoor and loosening format. For some episodes, Kupas Tuntas were more looked alike as an investigation or indepth magazine program than ever. For another time, it gone back to the format like used to be.

The well know host of Kupas Tuntas at Trans TV was Rizal Mustary, my senior and ex collague which I owed much. From Rizal I learnt much about producing talkshow, effective hosting and anchoring, making element of show or surprise more visible, and how to invite resource person or important informant to disclose their secretive informations. Once a time in 2005 I, my self, and Bobby Kur, my ex collague, had trouble to interview Michelle Rene Heller, a French nationality that being charged of pedophilia case and detained in Karangasem County Detention, Bali.

Three days we were looking forward to interview him but failed. The chief of the detention center had already permitted the interview but still the detainee rejected the plan. We almost saw deadlocked. After days Rizal joint the team and figured out that difficulty.

Whille trying to negotiate for exclusive interview with the defendant, Rizal assigned one of his team member, a beautiful associate producer, to ease the negotiation with Michelle's lawyer. It was tricky but clever. The negotiation succeeded with very good result: Michelle agreed to be interviewed with Rizal after the trial and before he sent back to the prison. We were pleased to have such an exclusive interview that other media expected too. My first experiences with Kupas Tuntas had paved my way to another talkshow project.

The chance came earlier at September 2006 when Kompas Gramedia sold some of his shares on TV7 to Transcorp. I was trasferred to TV7 (later known as Trans7) to revive Kupas Tuntas hosted by Tegus Usis. With Teguh, Kupas Tuntas was more politically hard talk but sway backed easily to another loose format depending on the topics. I owed much to Kupas Tuntas and personally to Teguh Usis, to whom I may join the next project called Mata Najwa at Metro TV.
